Making an Impact on Your Business Through Prayer – Part Two

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

Should you engage in prayer for your business? Of course.

Not only should you pray for your business, but you should also pray for:

Every decision you make
Every product you produce
Every service you render
Every customer you serve
Every vendor you bless

Regular, Disciplined Prayer Time

Continual, disciplined intentional prayer is a necessary step to bring God into your business.

Many Christian business executives begin their day with a personal prayer for the day’s activities, asking God’s direction and favor on the day‘s activities.

Others gather Christians in their business and organize a specific and regular time of prayer. I used to meet with my head of customer service, who was a mature Christian man, every Monday morning, for example. We would come in early, and spend 15 minutes together bringing the week’s activities and decisions to the Lord.

Some people organize a prayer team to bring the organization’s challenges and opportunities to the Lord, I have a team of six people, each of whom is committed to praying for the business on a specific day of the week. One prays on Monday, another on Tuesday, etc. Every Saturday morning, I email a one-page document to all of them detailing the issues, problems, and opportunities I see in the upcoming week to prayer partners who pray for the business.

Prayer is so important to the development of a Biblical business that some actually hire a prayer warrior to pray regularly for the business. For years, I contracted with an organization whose sole purpose is to intercede for business and business people. It was a contractual, paid relationship.

Some hold a weekly prayer time after hours in the business and invite everyone who is interested. Some begin every business meeting with a time of prayer.

The point is that there are a lot of different ways to immerse the business in prayer. Feel free to share additional practices in the comments section below.

And, if you don’t have a regular pattern of prayer for your business, now is the time to institute a discipline that will entreat God to be a greater and more visible par to your business.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the instructions and examples you have given us in your word. Thank you for showing us the power of prayer and directing us to bring everything to you in prayer. Help us to understand the significant responsibility we have for the decisions that we make on behalf of the organization, and stimulate us, Lord, to bring you into our businesses in greater and more visible ways than ever before.
